Kathmandu : Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre (SGNHC), in collaboration with Seoul National University of the Republic of Korea, organized a one-day workshop on Hospital-Acquired Infection (HAI) Prevention and Control, aimed at strengthening infection prevention practices and improving patient safety.

The workshop brought together healthcare professionals, clinicians, and infection control experts to discuss evidence-based strategies for preventing hospital-acquired infections. The program featured presentations by five professors and specialists from South Korea, who shared international best practices, recent advances in infection control, and practical approaches to improving healthcare quality.

Speaking at the event, Acting Executive Director of Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre (SGNHC) Dr. Rabindra Bhakta Timala said the workshop had provided valuable insights that would help strengthen infection prevention and control measures at the national referral heart centre.

"The recommendations and practical knowledge gained through this workshop will be gradually implemented to enhance patient safety and further improve the quality of healthcare services," Dr. Timala said.

Ahead of the workshop, a joint surgical team led by Dr. Woong-Ham Kim, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon from the W.J. Lee Global Medical Center, Seoul National University, and pediatric cardiac surgeons from SGNHC successfully performed complex congenital heart surgeries on seven children. According to the hospital, all seven children are recovering well following their operations.

Dr.Timala said international partnerships are crucial for technology transfer, professional knowledge exchange, and capacity building.

He added that collaborations with globally recognized institutions would further strengthen Nepal's cardiac care services and support SGNHC's vision of delivering healthcare that meets international standards.
